Project coordinator Akmatova Kuluipa and local expert from Talas oblast Kurmanbaev Akylbek participated in the Global Alliance for protection of the sacred snow leopard population in Mongolia

   "Kyrgyz traditional ecological knowledge in the base of the snow leopard protection and its habitat at the local community level" project coordinator Akmatova Kuluipa and local expert from Talas oblast Kurmanbaev Akylbek on a delegation from Kyrgyzstan, with the support from the “Institute for Sustainable Development Strategy” Social Fund, participated in the working seminar, that took place in Mongolia, on the territory of the “Hustay Nuruu” National Park, on April 1-9, 2016.

   This seminar-workshop was initiated to prepare for the conduction of the next Global Alliance on protection of the snow leopards’ population meeting, that is planned to be held in the second quarter of 2016, that, taking into account all the recommendations and offers, made during the first meeting.

 

   The main goals of this seminar-workshop were:

- Introduction of indigenous culture aspects into the ecological education through the programs supported by the Global Alliance on protection of snow leopards’ population and other programs in Mongolia, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Russia.

- Collective discussion, development of the pilot project and the work plan, practicing in monitoring of the wild nature on the basis of tablets and smartphones and history visualization technologies.

- Discussion of the success indicators – what they are, why traditional indicators are important and what was done by others until now.

- Create examples, that can serve as point of departure for the development of specific indicators in protection of snow leopards.

Построение команды   The seminar program was intense, the main attention was on the practical part of the job with tablets and smartphones, with the goal to refine, together with the participants, the specially developed application, for the technical devices, that enables the user to monitor and collect date about snow leopards. Collection and transfer of information will be conducted directly from the community and people that are tightly connected with the snow leopard and its area of habitat, those, that have met leopards along their way or has seen from far. This was a single unified data base can be collected

  

 

   Team building activities     

                                          

   During the seminar, all participants had a chance to express their proposals on improvement of this application, and also to share some new ideas, that have been considered and will be refined before the next Global Alliance meeting.

   Among the seminar participants are researchers, spiritual practitioners, experts and representatives of the mountain communities from Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia, USA, and Russian Federation. All together they have shared ideas and innovative proposals, that can contribute to the positive shifts in the development and promotion of this idea and will let the snow leopard be protected in cooperation with the local communities in the places of its habitat
