RDF took part in International Land Coalition in India

RDF took part in the Asia Regional Assembly and Land Forum organized by ILC in the Gujarat state, India. The International Land Coalition was held from 7-10 October, 2014. Today among Kyrgyzstan’s organizations, RDF is the only organization which is the member of the ILC. Asian countries like Nepal, Philippines, Indonesia, India, Cambodia, Mongolia and Kyrgyzstan were involved in this event. As well as agenda included participation of representatives of ILC Secretariat.  

 

Purpose of the event:

The aim of this forum was exchanging views among coalition’s members about access to land. Each country made presentation on land issues’ situations in their country, and discuss the introduction of new programs and projects which weres implemented in participating countries.


Additional activities:

The program of action was intense. The forum participants presented their projects and  the officials of India performed with  welcome speech. At the event were discussed such topics as: the involvement of civil society in the formulation and implementation of policies in the field of land issues, legal issues, human rights on the land in Asia,  land matrix, as a tool for agricultural investment, the relationship of natural resources, particularly land with the environment, payment for environmental services and more.

RDF presented information about  organization, projects and activities in the area of access to land. As well as were considered issues of conflicts around natural resources, micro-grant programs of the projects, activities aimed to improve the well-being of people who live in rural area.

Likewise Jasil (Mongolia) and RDF (Kyrgyzstan) provided information about joint project on Central Asian regional exchange on co-management of pastureland and ecosystem management in rural areas. The final step was visiting the pastoral communities, which live in the state of Gujarat. This visit was organized with the assistance of local organization  Marag, India that works with them on land issues. Locals talked about the current situation and problems with access to land, about relationship with the business companyies  and more.

This forum has become informative and fruitful for Kyrgyzstan. Moreover, members of the forum discussed the possibility of holding next regional assembly in  Kyrgyzstan.
